The Tale of 2 Days of Fishing

Day 1 (Saturday the 4th)

Ran to Stellwegan with Chris and Jono, left dock at 5am. Saw humpbacks on the way out, lots of whales and birds there, but no tunas or other exciting fish. We did catch a mac on a tuna bar.

Burnt about a quarter of a tank there (est 35 gallons). We ran to race point saw boats fishing and a few birds, but no marks and no bass. We did see a lot of bunker.

Ran from there to Plymouth and trolled north, saw tons of bait (mainly pogies). We stopped at Minots to let our passenger have a swim. Got a good hit, but was gone when we locked it up.

We continued north, Jono and Chris had a swim and we continued to troll. No bites and nothing seen.

Day 2 (Sunday), 8am start

Tate and I headed out on the boat. Decided to have a go getting some macs (heard rumor of some at Thieves ledge. Headed out that way, trolled a sibiki rig and a xrap. Caught a bunch of macs to the point where I had a full string.

We decided to troll Xraps down Minots as it was almost dead low.

Picked up a fish on brown xrap with only tail hook. Tate got on him and brought him in. Big fish, probably over slot came to back of boat. I lipped the fish. As it started to come out of water, the fish gave a head shake and there was slack in the line and a barbless hook, lure and hook came flying out of fish and into my cheek. Fish swam away happy and I had to remove hook and lure from my face. However as it was debarbed it came out easy.

We continued our way to Minots, almost ran aground in shallow spot, drifted macs in a number spots, no nibbles.

Had to get Tate back to Boston for lunch with friends, while going by Paddocks noticed a ton of birds and boats fishing, however didn’t see any top water action or good marks on sounder. We tried a bunch of different lures, no bites.

Headed back to HYC, with a tank full of macs and a dead iPhone and watch. Couldn’t get in Rivian, so had lunch at club while phone charged and found a new home for macs.

So two days of fishing, one striper, and double digit macs.
