So woke up early, looked outside and it looked calm and nice, so decided to grab the fly rod and hop into the whaler at 5am for an early fish.
Got out didn’t see anything towards Weymouth so headed towards Hull, when something caught my eye in the Weymouth direction. I had seen a bird circling and then saw another heading in that direction.
I put Hull on the back burner and headed for Weymouth. As I got closer I saw more birds and POW, there was a good bird work up and fish splashing on the surface.
Ran into some early issues sorting out fly line and a tangle on something in the boat. But finally got the line out, right on target and 3rd or 4th strip, had one on…
Had a good number of bites, maybe as many as 10-15, saw a couple of nice takes close to the boat.
Overall landed and released a couple big fish, and one small fry, in a little over an hour.
Great morning out, not another boat fishing as far as I could see

Went out after work, at low tide. Saw a bunch of birds near Weymouth, but no bites.
Headed over to Hull and as I came across the Crow Point Flats ran into a good bird ball.
Hooked up pretty quick on the Thomas & Thomas 9wt fly rod, only to snap him off. The loop to the fly had been severed, so thinking it could be bluefish, changed to wire leader. No strikes, so changed back to deciever and smack quickly got another hit.
Caught a 20 incher, which by the time I got him netted the birds moved on and it looked like the bite was done.
Trolled my fly over to where the birds where on the water, KAPOW, bit hit, stripped a ton of line super fast to the point I got burnt.
Stopped boat, he kept going and had me down to the backing, super fast. Had to chase him down in the boat and once I got fly line back on the reel, there was a good fight with him circling the boat.
Finally after missing him twice with the net got him into the boat. Measured out at about 29 inches, but a big heavy solid fish.
Took the time to revive him and off he splashed back to the bait ball.
Super nice evening, with a good amount of luck!
Also got a couple nice photos of Afishionado on the way in.

Saw a good number of birds work just round the corner of Portuguese Cove, below.

Caught 2 nice fish in the shallows on the fly. Both put up a great fight on the 9wt and we’re of course a sliver under keeper size.
They had sea lice so assume they are pretty fresh.

Was on 7:15 ferry to Boston and spotted a huddle of boats fishing south end of Spectacle. Did NOT see any birds or fish caught!
Did see birds working on the surface at the outer harbor end of the airport.
Tide: almost low.
Just wrapped up 4 great days of fishing at Sailfish Oasis on the Allure II. Ended up with 10 fish a day release average and a beautiful stripped Marlin to boot.
Food and company at lodge was amazing as always, with a phenomenal BBQ on the last night. Rooms were super clean and comfortable with everything working perfectly from very cold AC to very hot water for the shower.
Fishing was a bit of a run for here, but once we got to the fish, fishing was great. One day we caught a quad (4 fish on at one time) and even released 6 fish in less than 30 mins.

First day we managed to release 6 fish after raising over 20, the morning fish were a bit meek, but the bites in the afternoon were much more aggressive with a few taking the switch from teaser.
Day 2 and 3 were great solid bites with a few stripped marlin thrown in.

Day 4 we made a longer run to new “HOT” only to find the fish weren’t there. We found some tunas we couldn’t get to bite and moved closer to our original area for the afternoon where we released 6 sailfish in less than 30 minutes helped by a quad (four fish on at one time) and two quick singles.
Great to end with a 10 a day release average.
Allure II is a fantastic day fishing boat, optimized perfectly for the fishing done here, with easy and quick access to the cockpit via an open cabin. Super strong AC in the cabin and lots of flybridge overhang in the cockpit for shade.

All in all, great crew on the boat and amazing team at the lodge.

So had so much fun the day before, Tate and I got up early and headed out to see if some of the fish where still there. Our first sight was a bunch of boats on our spot, including a couple of charter boats. We found a school of fish and some Googan ran threw the shallows at full speed, right through our school and put them down.
Anyway while I was getting ready to reset the boat, Tate got his 1st fish. It put up a good fight and we caught a few more in the same spot before we headed home.

We got off dock around 6:40 am with Fly rod and spin rod in hand. We knew low tide was scheduled for 8:40am
Made it to old long island bridge without seeing anything. Mike suggested we go along Long, and thank god we did.

Down by Bass Point (great and appropriate named) on Long Island we noticed a few birds and a splash in the shallow water, very close to shore. We proceed to catch 3 or so fish each from different schools that popped up and down.
We both had morning family engagements that required us to be back early. So we headed back to the barn. On our way to back in just before Hingham Shipyard in the super skinny water we ran into a few more small fish, which were fun and an awesome take on the fly.
Saw aFISHionado this morning on her mooring on ferry ride in, looks fine.

Also saw a guy snagging pogies in the shipyard channel, as well as seeing a pogies on the surface in some distress. Maybe a striped bass had had a go at him or the snagger.
Either way there be pogies in them Shipyard waters…

Update. Also a ton of pogies near governors flats in Boston Harbor, pretty much right were the boat icon is below.

And yes, I guess I need to update my charts. LOL
So the tournament ran from 5am to 1:30pm. High tide was at at 4:30, which gave us a tough fishing window.
On Friday afternoon I swung by the Hull tackle store at picked up some worms and extra circle hooks
Team Lonsdale got up just before 6am Saturday morning, by the time we got everything together including getting doughnuts we left the dock a little after 6:30am, and by around 7, we made it to the 1st spot I wanted to fish. Brian was there with 1st Tracks so we went to plan B, fishing Toddy rocks. We started by going with the current, but on reaching the far end turned around and went against the current. There was some super nice structure and wasn’t long till we had a hook up which our Female resident angler took and delivered us our 1st fish of the day.

We tried a bit longer at the same spot with no hook ups so moved to Plan C, fishing in Boston inner harbor.
Tate hooked up this time with a fish that had to half the size of the tube and worm and not much bigger than a Brook Trout. We quickly released him and fished a bit longer. We didn’t have another hook up some slowly worked our way towards home looking for any bird action. Seeing nothing and given that it was blazing hot. We called it a day at around 10am and went for a swim at Grand Dad Dereks pool.
We returned to HYC, for awards and found that Chelsea had placed 2nd in women’s division.
All togher a fun and successful morning out in the whaler.

The day started off as any other, us cruising around the harbor looking for birds. We checked out, Fore River, Quincy Bay, Airport, The Poop Factory and then headed home via Hull Gut.
As we neared Georges we saw a line of boats with oranges flags, as we got closer we saw they were each guarding a swimmer. We slowly picked our way around them and continued on our way.
As we approached Hull Gut, we noticed a number of boats 5-6 at this time grouped together in front of the gut. Getting closer we saw a number of birds and realized something fun was going on.
Hooked up first cast of my small silver RonZ. Given the aggressiveness of the take and the fight realized I had a blue fish on. Only as we were about to pull the fish in did it finally make its way through my mono. Mike and I hurriedly tried to switch over to a wire tipet. He beat me to the next bite, however somehow on getting it to the boat he broke his rod tip off so ended fishing the rest of the day with a 4 foot spin rod.
Helped Brian splash his boat. We then took a cruise around the harbor looking for some calm water to tube and worm or birds working.
Caught three fish including a 27 incher. All caught on tube and worm in the inner harbor in Boston.
Saw a lot of birds in the inner harbor and around old long island bridge
| Boat | 1st Tracks |

Brought boat to HYC with Tate.
We put 100 gallons in, got us to a smidge below full.
Nats and Chelsea came on a short time later and we went to find mooring.
Once tied up to mooring, bad fish came over and rafted up and a short time later another boat came and rafted up on Port.
We had plenty to drink and eat while listening to music on the barge. We had at least 10 people on all outside with plenty of space to spare.
Boat did well and engines worked great!
Left dock at 6am in 10kn+ of breeze. Middle tide heading to low.
Did the loop to HYC, Hull Bay, through the gut to south side of Long Island then to Long Island bridge supports, through Quincy Bay, around Nut island and back into Fore River, where we finally found birds working and fish.

We caught 6 or so fish, the largest a few inches too small to make slot limit. We were both using Ronz’s in silver that seemed to be working better than bubblegum.

So hopped on a friends boat for a tuna hunt Saturday. We left Falmouth around 4:30 with lines in around 6. We hit most of the spots Capt Mike suggested. Didn’t see or catch any tunas, but did see a ton of whales and dolphins and the weather and company was great.

Some vid of the dolphins out to play

Mass of birds inside of nun marking dog leg of main channel just east of Airport.

I’m on 5:40 boat. Tide is ebbing, 1 hr to low…
